About Me
Jenny Spencer is the Creative Founder and CEO of BEYOND the DANCE changing the lives of studio owners and young dancers by implementing a new paradigm of discovery on how to build STORY and find the hidden language in the steps, bringing dance to life!
Jenny has pioneered the first-ever incomparable curriculum by combining her vast knowledge in Theater, Dance and Acting, giving Dance Studio owners and dancer/s the “tools” to understand how to reveal raw authentic meaning behind the choreographic steps.
Her impressive long-standing career stems from 30 years as a Dance Educator, Off-Broadway Choreographer, and well known Triple Threat Performer in Tony Award Winning Shows such as The Producers, Fosse, Chicago, and many other Blockbuster Original Broadway Musicals.
Jenny graced the stage starring opposite legendary actors; Mathew Broderick, Nathan Lane, Michale Crawford, Anne Reinking, Bernadette Peters, Rene Auberjonois, Ben Vereen, Joel Grey, Gwen Verdon, Bebe Neuwirth just to name a few.
The late Anne Reinking took notice of her strong classical ballet technique combined with her unforgettable flare of uniqueness as a performer and placed her in her first Tony Award Winning Broadway Show “CHICAGO!” Her career soared, landing her over 10 Broadway Shows and starring in ALL of them!
Jenny choreographed the Off-Broadway Musical “Forever Dusty” at the World Stages in NY capturing every nuance from the late Dusty Springfield and her work was showered with praise!
Jenny’s impressive show list includes: Chicago (all roles) Side Show (Bud), Annie Get Your Gun (Dolly Tate), Fosse (Lead singer with Ben Vereen), The Producers (Ulla), All Shook Up (Sandra), Romeo and Juliet (Nurse), Applause (Debbie), Boobs-Off Broadway Comedy (originating 8 different characters, NY Times write up!) Dance of The Vampires (Magda), Dracula, The Henry Mancini Project (Lead singer and dancer).
Jenny now resides on the West Coast with her two kids and Tony Award-winning husband J. Robert Spencer. As CEO and Founder of BEYOND the DANCE, Jenny is teaching studios how to become iconic by training their dancers and teachers on a much higher intellectual and intuitive level, driving them to think, create and find their own power and unique expression. BEYOND the DANCE isn’t about the trick or pirouette, but how the inquisitive mind begins to find and distill the language within the dance. Our renowned method is revolutionizing the rigid perfectionism world of dance and turning seasoned dancers into Artists.

I have. Over the years, I've taught in many different dance programs and judged dance competitions, and what I've seen is that while the technique is often proficient, the story—the reason behind it all—is missing.

When I looked at a dancer, I wanted to see their experience on stage as if I were there with them. I wanted to feel what they felt when they created that moment in time; to sense all the layers of meaning that went into creating those movements, and for those movements to speak directly to my heart.

There's a story behind every dance performance. It's just that most dancers don't know how to find and express it, but when they do, they can create truly transcendent performances. That's why I created Beyond the Dance.
